Description
You will be picked up at your hotel in Guatemala City and transferred to San Juan Comalapa via Antigua Guatemala.

San Juan Comalapa is one of the most picturesque village of Guatemala. Upon arrival in the town, you will be able to observe several local art galleries, where artists show their work. San Juan Comalapa is sometimes called the "Florence of America" because of the many Kaqchikel painters living there. The town really gained its reputation because of the work of Andres Curuchich who rose to fame for his paintings depicting local village life and whose work has been displayed in galleries as far away as New York.

You will also drive past a colorful cemetery that has an outer wall mural painted by local artists. The mural depicts major events in the history of Guatemala, including the Maya creation story, the Spanish conquest, and more recently Guatemala's civil war.

Local artists display their work in household galleries, and they will open their doors for visitors who want to see their varied and colorful artwork.

We will also visit and explore the colorful market and the baroque church of San Juan Comalapa.

After our visit to Comalapa, we will be moving to the archaeological site "Iximche," one of the oldest and most important cities of Maya where you can visit the pyramids in honor of the moon and sun.

Iximche is a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archaeological site in the western highlands of Guatemala. Iximche was the capital of the Late Postclassic Kaqchikel Maya kingdom from 1470 until its abandonment in 1524. The architecture of the site included a number of pyramid-temples, palaces, and two Mesoamerican ballcourts.

You will have your lunch (included) afterward. Then, you will be transferred to Antigua Guatemala or Guatemala City.
